City Employee Arrested for DWI After Crash Involving City Garbage Truck





Schenectady, NY -*On Tuesday, the Schenectady Police Department responded to a crash that occurred at approximately 8:06 a.m. in the 600 block of Orchard Street. A City of Schenectady garbage truck struck a worker loading garbage, temporarily pinning him between the vehicle and a truck. pole.

The injured worker was taken to Albany Medical Center and underwent surgery. Following the incident, police teams launched an investigation.

The truck driver, identified as 51-year-old Robert L. Thomas from Schenectady, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, both with a blood alcohol content over .08, general offense, and unsafe rearing.

Thomas was released on appearance tickets and is no longer employed by the city. The victim’s name has not been released and he continues to recover in the hospital.
