Monrovia Man Convicted of Assault, Child Abuse

Frederick, MD – Christopher Kraft, 46, of Monrovia, MD, was convicted Tuesday by Judge Scott Rolle of a litany of crimes including First Degree Assault, Second Degree Child Abuse, Second Degree Assault, and Neglect of a Child. This sentence followed a Sept. 25 jury verdict that found Kraft guilty after a three-day trial in Frederick Circuit Court.

Kraft was sentenced to 25 years in prison for First Degree Assault, but will serve 17 years in the Department of Corrections as the remainder is suspended. The additional 15-year sentence for Second Degree Child Abuse was also suspended to run consecutively. Concurrent sentences were given for Second Degree Assault and Neglect.

The charges stem from a March 3 incident in which Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a welfare check on a child. During this check, witnesses reported Kraft hitting the child and engaging in other acts of violence. Further investigation revealed an earlier incident in which Kraft threatened the child with a firearm.

Upon completion of his sentence, Kraft will be placed on four years of probation with strict conditions, including no contact with the victim.
