He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for grooming a 10-year-old boy in Sioux Falls and producing child pornography.

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – A 38-year-old Sioux Falls man was sentenced to thirty years in prison after grooming a teenage girl to send her sexually explicit images.

Thomas William Tatar pleaded guilty in September to producing child pornography.

On Tuesday, Tatar was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release, a fine, $3,000 in restitution and must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

The investigation revealed that Tatar had been taking care of a 10-year-old girl for months via the instant messaging platform Discord.

Tatar convinced the boy that he was in a romantic relationship and persuaded him to send him depictions of himself engaging in sexually suggestive behavior.

Tatar was immediately transferred to the custody of the US Marshals Service.
