A man was arrested on murder charges for a drunk driving accident that killed a couple. toddlers inside California.

Alexis Garcia, 28, of Santa Barbara County, is charged with two counts of murder, one count of DUI and one count of hit-and-run and will be arrested after being released from the hospital. KTLA5.

Investigators allege Garcia’s vehicle crashed into a car containing two young children, ages 3 and 4, after allegedly running a red light in Rialto, San Bernardino County, Sunday night.

Police said the teenage victims were inside their parents’ white Honda Accord, which turned left when the Blue Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Garcia was struck from the side. Their vehicle then headed toward a black tow truck, said Sergeant Daniel Smith of the Rialto Police Department.

Smith confirmed that one of the young children was thrown from the vehicle upon impact and both were later pronounced dead at the scene.

It was stated that the girls’ 25-year-old father, Marky Flores, had to be hospitalized due to moderate injuries, while the 24-year-old mother, Valencia Avilez, was uninjured. ABC7.

Lisa Avilez, the two girls’ step-grandmother, formally identified them as Neveah and Alenia Flores.

he said KTLA5: “I am lost for words. I experienced this just two weeks ago. I went out and bought them Christmas clothes… I am angry. I’m angry. There is no need for people to drink and drive.

“How many more deaths will there be? He just took the lives of two innocent children and now my daughter is in shambles.”

Garcia allegedly tried to leave the scene of the fatal crash, but police found him 400 meters away and arrested him.

He is still being treated for injuries sustained during the Monday evening crash and will be booked into the West Valley Detention Center when he is released, officials told ABC7..

It was stated that the girl’s father underwent surgery at the hospital. GoFundMe Campaign created to support parents’ medical and funeral expenses.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing and Independent contacted the Rialto Police Department for information.
