A Jefferson Co. man with an outstanding warrant was arrested for theft by resisting arrest charges, among other things

LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) – A man has been arrested following a burglary in Leeds on Wednesday 20 November.

Leeds Police say they were called to a burglary in progress in the 1400 block of Rosa Parks Circle. When officers arrived at the scene, they said they saw Justis Heath McGuire, 19, of Adamsville, still inside the home with the victim holding him in place.

LPD attempted to arrest McGuire, but he began to resist, ripped off his chokes and attacked the officers before running into a wooded area.

After establishing a perimeter, LPD launched an ‘extensive manhunt’ at multiple locations in the woods near Memorial Park with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County STAR 1, Jefferson County K-9 and the Irondale Police Department. and water treatment plant.

At 5:30 p.m., after the presence of a suspicious person matching McGuire’s description was reported, officers responded to the 1300 block of Montevallo Road, where McGuire attempted to flee a second time toward Rowan Springs Road. There, officers said he jumped and destroyed high privacy fences. property throughout the neighborhood.

Officers chased McGuire before arresting him in the 1300 block of Roawn Springs Road.

During the investigation, LPD said McGuire used a different person’s identity to disguise his own identity. However, authorities were able to positively identify him as the suspect in the burglaries and assaults earlier in the day.

LPD said McGuire had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Jefferson County for 2nd degree rape, 2nd degree theft of property and attempted escape.

According to LPD, McGuire is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on the following charges:

  • obstruct justice
  • Attack degree 2 x2
  • Theft 3rd degree x2
  • Forgery 4th degree
  • Criminal trespass 2nd degree
  • Criminal mischief 3rd degree
  • I’m trying to escape x2
  • Resisting arrest x2
