A 32-year-old canter truck driver died after his vehicle was hit by a speeding dump truck near Durga Seed Farm in Raipur Rani on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said deceased Sudhir was a resident of Panchkula’s Raipur Rani.

The accident was also witnessed by Sudhir’s cousin, 39-year-old Pintu, who was following the canter on his Honda Activa scooter. Pintu, in his statement to the police, said that Sudhir, who was working as a driver, was on his way to Jatwar in Ambala for a job-related task when he was suddenly hit by a dump truck approaching from the opposite direction at high speed. He mounted his truck at a canter with tremendous strength.

“I ran towards the canter and saw Sudhir lying seriously injured. The dump truck driver, who I could identify if encountered, immediately fled the scene. A crowd gathered and someone alerted the ambulance service. Sudhir was rushed to the civil hospital in Sector 6 in Panchkula, but he died soon after arrival due to severe injuries,” Pintu told the police.

After preliminary investigations, the police lodged an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 324(4) (causing damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation has been launched to find and capture the dump truck driver.
