Rural mother and stepfather sign agreement over 12-year-old girl’s death

FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) – An out-of-state couple has pleaded guilty in the death of a 12-year-old girl.

Shawnetta and Barkee Faust pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter as well as unlawful endangerment of a child, according to the court clerk.

The plea agreement came days before the murder trial was set to begin.

In May 2022, Ashantae Unique Glenn died shortly after being brought to the emergency room of Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Glenn died from throat trauma, resulting in him breathing in blood and suffering from acute bronchopneumonia. His death was officially ruled a homicide.

According to authorities, the child’s mother and stepfather, Shawnetta and Barkee Faust, were arrested in June 2022 and charged with murder.

The court clerk stated that the sentences given to the couple were given concurrently and that they received compensation for time spent in prison, meaning the couple would be sentenced to slightly less than 8 years in prison.
