Houston Rockets’ Alperen Şengün Has Room for Development

Coming off a five-year, $185 million contract extension, Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun had a lot to prove.

He did just that with his 25 points and 18 rebounds in his team’s season opener against the Charlotte Hornets, but there’s still plenty of room for him to get even better.

“They’ve sent a few stunt doubles in post a few times, but I think it’s more us than what they’re doing.” Udoka said via SportsRadio610 reporter Adam Spolane:. “They gave him Grant Williams and changed some matchups, but he made open layups and missed a couple of times, so I can’t say they did much other than us rushing and getting a little sloppy at times.”

Udoka’s criticism of Şengün was fair, and the Turkish center also expressed this when reflecting on the match. Şengün shot just 8/19 from the three-point line; This productivity line is expected to improve further over time.

“I just missed shots today (which) I don’t normally miss,” Sengun said, via Spolane. “I didn’t perform at my best today.”

Throughout his four seasons in the NBA, Sengun has always been someone who focuses on improving his game, and now that he has a big contract that will make him a cornerstone for the Rockets, it’s imperative for him to get better.
