Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney will campaign in Michigan on Monday alongside Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Elissa Slotkin.

Cheney and Slotkin will be in Grand Rapids, once a conservative stronghold, just days after the leading Republican endorsed Slotkin against his Republican rival, former Rep. Mike Rogers.

Cheney said in a statement that her support for the competitive, open Senate race “is not about policy differences” but rather “about doing what’s right for our country.”

“The risks in this election are unlike anything we have faced before, but the future of our democracy is at stake,” Cheney, a former member of the House GOP leadership, said at Wednesday’s announcement.

“Liz Cheney’s voice has been critical at a time when our democracy is being challenged,” Slotkin said in a statement. “While we certainly don’t agree on everything, I look forward to welcoming her back to Michigan next week.” “To talk about issues where all Americans can come together.”

Monday night’s event will not be the first time Cheney has gone on the campaign trail with Slotkin. Cheney’s endorsement of the Michigan Democrat for Congress two years ago marked the first time Cheney had endorsed a candidate across party lines. Of course, he supported Harris over Trump in the presidential race this year.

At an event in Slotkin’s congressional district in 2022, Cheney urged voters to “look beyond partisan politics” for the “survival of our republic”; That was a tone the Wyoming Republican used in a series of hearings with Harris this week.

Earlier this month, Cheney backed Democrats in contentious House races in New York and Pennsylvania that could hinder Republicans’ chances of retaining power in the lower chamber.
