Former Virginia Tech Standout Christian Darrisow Needs Season-Ending Knee Surgery

According to reports on Friday, Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisow will likely have to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury suffered in Thursday Night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Darrisow, who manned the starting spot at left tackle, fell to Rams safety Jaylen McCollough, causing Darrisow to fall to the ground in pain. The Vikings’ medical staff would tend to him until he could be taken directly to the locker room with the help of officials.

In his absence, the Vikings assigned David Quessenberry to left tackle for the remainder of the game. Head coach Kevin O’Connell commented on Darrisow’s injury after the game.

“Christian Darrisow injured his left knee,” O’Connell said. “But we will continue that assessment here and tomorrow and then try to confirm what it is. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for positive news.”

As reported today by Adam Schefter, the injury doesn’t look good for Darrisow as he will need surgery on his left knee at the end of the season.

After being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings out of Virginia Tech, Darrisow became the cornerstone of the Vikings’ offensive line.

He received a very big awardcontract extension This offseason, he will last four years and be worth up to $113MM, with $77MM guaranteed.

Darrisow was the 23rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Vikings exercised the fifth-year option on his contract this summer but have now extended his contract.

Next year, when Darrisow is expected to return, the Vikings will likely continue to develop their young tackle and hope to compete for the NFC North.
