2 injured in two separate shootings within an hour near Legion Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(WBRC) – Birmingham Police say two people were shot at two separate locations an hour apart in Birmingham on Friday afternoon.

Birmingham Police say they responded to a call of a person shot in the 200 block of 8th Avenue West around 2:19 p.m.

Police teams arriving at the scene found that one person had been shot.

The injured, who was not life-threatening, was taken to UAB Hospital.

Birmingham Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect got into a physical fight, during which the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

Due to the large number of police officers in the area, Birmingham Police were able to quickly respond to the scene and take the suspect into custody without incident.

Birmingham Police said the incident did not occur on the grounds of Legion Field.

Approximately an hour later at 3:18 p.m., Birmingham Police were called to the 800 block of 7th St W for a report of a person shot at a home.

It was stated that the person shot in the second incident was not life-threatening.

Birmingham Police announced that there were no suspects in custody regarding the second attack.

BPD Sergeant LaQuitta Wade told WBRC the two shooting incidents are not related.

Sergeant Wade also confirmed that these incidents were not related to the incident. Magic City Classic events.
