ACTION 13: CenterPoint repairs bent pole in Spring neighborhood months after Hurricane Beryl

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — A bent Center Point pole left behind by Hurricane Beryl’s winds is causing concern in a Spring neighborhood near Wisteria Walk.

Neighbors told ACTION 13 they’ve called the company several times since July but haven’t gotten any help.

One frustrated homeowner said he returned to Action 13 after giving Centerpoint several chances to resolve the issue.

Months later, they said, there was no movement on their initial request for aid in July until Action 13 was activated.

“I think it’s a safety hazard,” homeowner Maureen Valenta said. “Help us get out!!”

Maureen Valenta created an oasis in her Spring garden that her grandchildren love to visit. But in the last few months, he has become concerned about a Centerpoint pole that has bent since strong winds from Hurricane Beryl, causing cables to hang dangerously.

On Wednesday, he showed Eylem 13 the pole and explained his frustrations.

“We’ve reached this light pole where I’ve been trying and trying and trying to fix Centerpoint,” Valenta said.

On Friday, Centerpoint finally visited the home and confirmed they had installed a new pole. They told ABC13 they transferred all electrical distribution equipment but could not remove the extra bent pole without removing the attached telecommunications cables.

Comcast representatives say that after ACTION 13 arrived, they sent a crew to the area to transfer lines out of the bending post.

“When they put the new one in, they should have taken out this half mast and attached everything to it,” Valenta said.

Centerpoint said in a statement:

“Our teams are dedicated to ensuring our electric service is safe and reliable for our customers. Our operations team investigated the bent pole near 2706 Wisteria Walk and confirmed that CenterPoint Energy replaced it with a new pole and transferred all electricity. To be clear, the remaining wires on the original pole and equipment are customer-owned underground infrastructure and telecommunications cables owned and operated by the customer and companies unrelated to CenterPoint.

When CenterPoint Energy installs a new pole, the company notifies those responsible for other extensions of the need to relocate their equipment, and we provide temporary support to their facility during the permanent relocation. “We are working to expedite the reconnection of the facilities to this address and our crews will return to the full removal of the original pole as soon as this process is completed.”

Comcast tells Action 13 in a statement:

“Following your investigation, we had a crew report that an old pole was located in the area and a new pole was also already installed. Our line was being transferred to the new pole. Centerpoint was also on site. Transfer their line. The job should be done, but let me know if you have any further questions.”

Valenta hopes this gets fixed soon.
