Odisha government suspends 4 officials who misbehaved with people during cyclone Dana

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday suspended four officials on charges of dereliction of duty and mistreating people during cyclone-related operations.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said three panchayat extension officers (PEOs) and a revenue inspector (RI) were suspended after prima facie evidence was obtained against them.

Allegedly, these four officials were busy evacuating people to hurricane shelters by mistreating some people. Pujari said his department had also received complaints against some other officials and they were verified before initiating any action.

The minister said: “Government officials who selflessly serve the people in the event of cyclone emergency will be rewarded and action will be taken against those found guilty.”

On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded healthcare worker Sibani Mandal for her selfless service during severe cyclone Dana that made landfall in Kendrapara district.

Majhi also directed the Block Development Officer of Rajnagar block to provide a house to Mandal and assured him of the necessary additional assistance. Mandal had carried a paralyzed woman on his back and walked one and a half kilometers to a cyclone shelter in Rajnagar district.

The Chief Minister also praised the personnel of NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Department, Forest teams and Odisha Police for their dedicated service during cyclone Dana.
