: A teacher was arrested in a residential school in Gujarat’s Dahod district in IX, a police official said on Saturday. He said he was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a class tribal student.

Dhanpur police station official said that the incident took place at a tribal residential school in Khalta village and the accused was identified as Kalpesh Baria.

“Baria called the 17-year-old student to his room in the Khalta ashramshala campus on Thursday evening on the pretext of cooking food for him and made sexual propositions. He also grabbed her from behind. He called her sister there,” the official said.

“When his siblings, who were studying at the same school, learned about what they were going through, they informed their father. The family filed a complaint against Baria on Friday and Baria was arrested a short time later,” he said.

Baria was charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 75 (1)(i) (physical touching and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual propositions), section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act (sexual assault) and its provisions. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Ashramshala is managed by the state’s social welfare department.
