Walsall Wood banned from league

Wood’s last three Northern One Midlands matches have been postponed due to off-field issues.

Walsall’s match with Quorn AFC today (26 October) has been canceled along with previous matches against Bedworth United and Sutton Coldfield Town.

A statement from the Northern Premier League said: “The match has been postponed as the club is currently under suspension for failing to comply with the league directive.”

Current ownership and direction at the club is unknown.

Wood said in a statement on 18 October that “the last few weeks have been difficult” but that he was “working hard behind the scenes with a team of volunteers to ensure the club operates stably”.

Adam Pearce stepped in to fill the void left by Ian Long after his resignation. Long claimed that he and his players were not paid by the club, which led to him and his players leaving.

“There are so many promises that haven’t come true,” Long said after marching.

Although Walsall had a great start to the season on the field, the same could not be said.

Problems included a lighting failure during an FA Cup game against Worcester City at Oak Park in August, and George Evangelou also subsequently resigned as chairman.

Pearce said he was aiming for stability and, if possible, keeping Walsall afloat.

The former Wolverhampton Casuals boss struggled to find a side for Wood’s clash with Lye Town earlier this month.

Peace had previously said: “We know the club is in a bit of financial trouble but we will work within the mandate given to us and I will do my best to keep the club afloat.”
