NYPD School Safety Agent arrested on assault and criminal mischief charges

BROOKLYN, NY — A New York Police Department School Safety Agent was taken into custody this week following allegations of assault and criminal mischief at Coney Island, according to the 60th Precinct.

Douglas Brooks, 30, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. Details of the alleged events that led to Brooks’ arrest have not been released by law enforcement, and it remains unclear whether the charges occurred on or off school property.

An NYPD spokesman confirmed Brooks’ arrest but declined to comment further on the nature of the charges or the circumstances surrounding the arrest. The School Safety Division, which employs more than 5,000 agents, is responsible for maintaining safety and order in New York City’s public school system.

According to police records, third-degree assault charges in New York generally involve injury with intent to harm another person; Third-degree criminal mischief involves intentional destruction of property, usually valued at more than $250.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
