Man arrested for multiple burglaries and thefts in Thomaston

THOMASTON — Thomaston police said a 55-year-old transient man was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges including burglary, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

David Atwood was taken into custody at a McDonald’s restaurant for allegedly stealing a vehicle from the Lowe’s parking lot on New County Road earlier in the day.

Police said Atwood is also suspected of burglarizing the Enterprise car rental location and stealing a golf cart from the facility.

Witnesses reported seeing Atwood drive the stolen vehicle into the Lowe’s parking lot and flee on foot.

The owner of the vehicle reported that it was seriously damaged and cash was lost during return.

Atwood faces three counts of burglary, one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, one count of criminal mischief and one count of theft.

State Fire Marshal investigators interviewed Atwood as a person of interest in recent suspicious fires in the area.

This investigation is still active.

Atwood is being held in the Knox County Jail.

Police warned citizens to remove their keys and lock vehicles when leaving them unattended.
