Junior doctors announce to march to CBI office seeking justice for rape murder victim – India TV

Protesting junior doctors in West Bengal on Saturday held a mass meeting after withdrawing their death fast and decided to march to the CBI office in Kolkata on October 30 to demand justice for RG Kar victim.

The mass meeting was held at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors from various state-run medical institutions, civil society representatives and celebrities from the Bengali entertainment industry held a ‘candle and fire torch’ rally following the convention.

One of the agitated doctors, Aniket Mahato, said: “More than two and a half months have passed since our beloved sister was tortured and murdered and we still do not know who the real culprit is. So, in today’s mass meeting, we have decided to hold a rally at the CBI office in CGO Complex on October 30 .”

On Saturday, the West Bengal Young Doctors Forum (WBJDF) held a mass meeting to plan their next move in seeking justice for RG Kar victim and ensure that the state government fulfills their demands.

Six-hour congress

32 forum representatives, civil society representatives and celebrities made speeches at the congress, which lasted more than 6 hours. Participants also discussed the threat culture allegedly prevalent in various government hospitals as well as steps to be taken to put pressure on the state government to meet their demands.

“We organized this mass rally to seek justice for our sister who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on August 9,” Mahato said. Another doctor, Debasish Halder, who was also uneasy, added: “The protest started by a few doctors has now reached a huge size. We wanted to know what happened in the seminar hall of the hospital (where the body was found). We did not know that this movement would continue for this long and that “I think we can get the support of as many people.”

Death fast canceled

Notably, on October 21, junior doctors called off their death fast after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who assured them that their demands would be looked into. They started their hunger strike on October 5.

On Saturday, assistant doctors also claimed that an attempt was made to cover up the truth about the events that led to the rape and murder of the intern doctor at RG Kar Hospital and that they were trying to protect the criminals behind this attack. event.

Another agitating doctor, Kinjal Nanda, said: “We wanted to know what the truth was and hence we pressed for a judicial inquiry. There were attempts to cover up the truth. We not only want justice, we also want cleansing.” system.”
