Ending gerrymandering with Issue 1 would help protect children in Ohio: Fred M. DeGrandis

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — With the recent child and teacher murders in Georgia and other past incidents, we must be able to call on our Ohio Legislature to create common-sense solutions to gun violence. Many Ohioans are disappointed that actions of this nature have not yet occurred. The mass shooting in Georgia was the 45th time schoolchildren were subjected to gun violence this year, CNN reported. There have been at least five more since then.

Why hasn’t our Legislature taken action, and how can it begin to implement effective solutions to protect schoolchildren and teachers? The answer is to end the current system of drawing voting districts, which results in arbitrary rule by the legislature.
