Israeli media stated that the suspected perpetrator was Rami Nasrallah Natour, an Israeli citizen from the city of Kalansua in central Israel. He was shot and killed at the scene by security forces.

Israel has faced sporadic attacks since launching a war on Gaza in October 2023, following a Hamas attack on October 7 that killed nearly 1,200 people in southern Israel.

Ceremonies were planned for Sunday to mark the anniversary of the October 7 attack according to the Hebrew calendar.

Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir arrived on the scene on Sunday.

In images shared on social media, the suspect is seen hugging a man who called for the “deportation” of his family.
