Marc Marquez's brutally honest verdict on Joan Mir's theme in Thailand

Marc Marquez’s MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix was a race of two separate halves separated by a collision, but the most controversial moment was when he made contact with Joan Mir in the closing stages.

Marquez fell from second place on lap 14 as he attempted to make a move on race leader and eventual winner Francesco Bagnaia, but he remounted on lap 16 and began to move towards the points.

On lap 23, Marquez passed Joan Mir at turn three, but the pair made contact as they reached the apex.

Marquez was on the inside and took the position and Mir also stayed but Marquez was penalized for irresponsible driving. Marquez moved from 12th to 11th after video evidence showed him taking part in the track.

Marquez said that he expected a penalty to be awarded after the contact, but he also felt that it was a matter of perspective.

“I was dreaming that I would get a penalty,” Marquez said.

“I haven’t seen the image, but if the image is from the flat, that’s one perspective, but if the image is from the very end, that’s another perspective.

“But if it was coming from the straight I was parallel with Joan before the braking point.”

Marquez explained that he felt the contact was a result of Mir trying to defend his position, rather than simply trying to force Mir out of the way as seen in TV replays.

“In my opinion, he lost three places on the previous lap and tried not to give up,” Marquez said. he said.

“And at one point he released the brake, went into the corner and I had no choice because I had no rear brake after the accident.

“Then I say, ‘Okay, get in touch.’ “So we had contact, I knew I would be punished.”

Realizing that he would receive a penalty and predicting (correctly, as it turned out) that he would be told to give up one place, Marquez moved on to minimize the impact of the penalty on his race.
