Punjab Police busted a cross-border drug smuggling gang, arrested two associates of Turkey-based smuggler Navpreet Singh alias Nav Bhullar and seized 105 kg of heroin along with six firearms. The two suspects were identified as Navjot Singh from Amritsar and Lovepreet Kumar from Kapurthala.

The arrests took place following an operation based on an intelligence tip. Police seized 5 foreign-made pistols and 1 domestic-made pistol. The case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) and Arms Act at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar.

Drugs, including 31.93 kg of Anhydrous Caffeine and 17 kg of dextromethorphan, were found on the suspects. DGP Gaurav Yadav said these substances allowed the suspects to increase their heroin quantity by four times.

Acting on intelligence, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar learned that the smuggler was running a Pakistan-backed drug network through local associates staying in a rented house in Baba Bakala area of Amritsar.

A checkpoint under the supervision of CI DSP Amritsar Balbir Singh led to the arrest of the suspects, who were found with 7 kg of heroin in their Volkswagen Virtus.

Following the suspects’ statements, police seized an additional 98 kg of heroin, a firearm and several agents at a rented property.

The investigation is still ongoing to trace the smuggling route and identify other links in the drug network. Efforts are continuing to capture other members of the cartel.
