Man arrested after failing to report killing man who tried to attack him with sword – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WISH) — A man was arrested Saturday night after he failed to call police to report that he shot and killed a man who tried to attack him with a sword.

According to Indiana State Police, Kevin Campbell, 68, heard a knock on his bedroom window around 5 p.m. at his home in the 1000 block of Slate Run Road in New Albany.

He armed himself with a small-caliber rifle and went to the front door of his home. When he opened the door, he was greeted by 41-year-old Christopher Proctor, standing outside and holding a sword.

At one point Proctor advanced towards the door, sword still in hand, prompting Campbell to shoot him. The bullet struck Proctor in the chest and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say it took Campbell about two hours to report the incident. When she called 911, she first reported that a dead man had been found in her front yard. When he arrived, Campbell told police he shot Proctor.

Campbell was arrested on a preliminary charge of obstruction of justice and booked into the Floyd County jail. ISP said the incident is still under investigation.
