Rumors that Fantasy Premier League players were controlled via mobile phone in the VAR stand during Sunday’s 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal have been dismissed as unfounded. Michael Salisbury and Darren Cann were VAR operators for the match played at Emirates Stadium. But arguably the most controversial moment of the match came in the first half of the clash at the Emirates when a fan went to X and claimed one of the VAR operators was “controlling” the Fantasy Premier League app.

However, this claim was quickly shot down by ESPN’s Dale Johnson, who revealed that the FPL-like app is actually the Premier League Match Manager app. He also clarified that no personal devices are allowed in the VAR booth at Stockley Park.


The image emerged after Ibrahima Konate’s bloody fight against Kai Havertz in the region. Referee Taylor ruled that the Frenchman had made contact with the ball, a decision later confirmed by Salisbury and Cann in VAR.
