Woman shot while trying to break into vehicle in Oakland Park

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A woman was shot in the arm during a burglary in Oakland Park Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Claudinne Caro-Guaraldi, deputies responded to a report of a shooting near the 4900 block of Northeast 13th Terrace just after 5 a.m.

He said that the responding deputies located the woman who had a gunshot wound to her arm.

Deputies administered first aid to the woman until the Oakland Park Fire Department arrived and transported her to a local hospital. It was stated that the injuries were not life-threatening.

According to Caro-Guaraldi, detectives learned that the shooting was related to a burglary in which the woman was the perpetrator.

She has since been arrested and identified as 31-year-old Ruika Abdulrahman.

Local 10 News reporter Hannah Yechivi arrived at the scene later in the morning and noticed a bullet hole in the driver’s side window of a white Mercedes-Benz SUV.

Pieces of cloth or towels that appeared to have blood on them were also detected.

A sergeant at the scene told Yechivi that Abdulrahman was trying to enter the vehicle when he was shot.

BSO’s Oakland Park District Crime Squad and BSO’s Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the burglary and shooting.
