Man to appear in court after allegedly attempting rape at Gold Coast real estate office

A man will appear in court after allegedly breaking into a Gold Coast real estate agency and attempting to sexually assault a woman working the front counter.

A 43-year-old Brisbane man will appear in Southport Magistrates’ Court today accused of attempting to rape the woman at her northern Gold Coast business last Friday afternoon.

Police allege the man entered the Pimpama real estate office around 4pm and dragged a 47-year-old female employee to the ground before attempting to sexually assault her.

The woman allegedly called for help and a co-worker came to her aid and tried to restrain the man.

Chief Inspector Craig Hanlon head shot.

Queensland Police Chief Craig Hanlon told ABC Gold Coast two other people passing by also saw the commotion.

“Two people who walked by the building and saw what was happening entered the store and helped subdue this person (the alleged criminal), luckily we were there to arrest the person,” he said.

Chief Inspector Hanlon said the same man allegedly attempted to attack another woman at Ormeau railway station earlier that day.

He said the alleged victim in that incident was a 23-year-old woman traveling on a southbound train.

“This was a frightening experience for both ladies,” she said.

The man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with intent to rape.

Chief Inspector Hanlon said police were grateful to those who came to the women’s aid.
