Hasnat and Sarjis submitted 2 memorandums to annul the last 3 elections and suspend AL’s political activities

Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, coordinators of the Student Movement Against Discrimination, submitted two writ petitions to the Supreme Court.

Hasnat wrote on his Facebook page that in the first post he wanted the last three elections of the Awami League to be canceled and asked why illegally obtained aid should not be returned.

The second petition asks why they should not be banned from all political activities until the verdict in the first case is made.

“The petitions do not mention banning the party or banning its registration,” Hasnat explained.

They filed the petition this morning (October 28) and Senior Advocate Advocate Ahsanul Karim confirmed it.

A hearing on the petitions will be held in the Supreme Court chambers later this week.

This latest petition follows a previous petition filed in August, which called for a complete ban on AL but was later rejected by a dual bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice AKM Asaduzzaman on September 1.

On October 23, the interim government banned AL’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League, citing provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The Awami League, founded on June 23, 1949, has faced increasing challenges after President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country following the student-led uprising on August 5.
