Ant bite stings man’s forearm and leaves huge scar, Latest Singapore News

A 40-year-old man was on the bus home from Toa Payoh on the afternoon of October 22 when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his arm.

When he looked down, he saw that a small ant had stung him, leaving a red spot behind.

After doing some research, he learned that the ant was the most poisonous ant species in the area.

“The stinging sensation was so bad that I put the ant in a plastic bottle so I could show it to a doctor,” Mr. Liu told Shin Min Daily News.

Later that night, he checked the red dot again, but it had disappeared.

However, white spots began to form around the wound and gradually spread into a red spot.

“I took a photo of the wound and showed it to my doctor friend. “He told me that the ant bite resulted in inflammation.”

In the photos provided by Mr. Liu, his arm is visibly swollen and red.

He noted that he had been bitten by insects and ants before during outdoor activities in the forest or at the beach, but he had never encountered such a serious case.

Online research highlights a species of ants named ‘guilty’ Tetraponera rufonigra.

The ant is characterized by a black head and abdomen, a red midbody, thick, short antennae, and long, narrow legs.

Its bite can cause swelling, pain, a burning sensation, and sometimes itching.

Mr. Liu applied medicated oil on the wound, and his condition began to improve after four days.
