CBI is investigating financial irregularities and serious criminal charges

Ghosh is facing parallel investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). While the first case relates to allegations of financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, the second relates to the gruesome rape and murder of a resident doctor at the same hospital last August.

Misleading investigative claims

In the rape and murder case, Ghosh is accused of misleading the investigation and tampering with evidence during the initial investigation conducted by the Kolkata Police before the Kolkata High Court handed it over to the CBI. Abhijit Mondal, former SHO of Tala Police Station, is also under investigation for similar charges and is currently in judicial custody.

Previously request for expedited hearing was denied

Earlier, Ghosh had sought an expedited hearing in the Calcutta High Court seeking permission to encash his fixed deposit to meet his legal expenses. However, the court rejected the request for expedited review. This issue is expected to be discussed again in the second half of Monday’s session.

Junior doctors’ frontline highlights financial mismanagement

Recently, the West Bengal Young Doctors Front (WBJDF), which is spearheading the protest against the rape and murder case, submitted important documents revealing how the state health department overlooked previous complaints about financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital during Ghosh’s tenure.

Evidence of abuse and neglect

The documents submitted, totaling 137 pages, detail instances of misuse of funds under Ghosh’s administration and show how complaints from whistleblowers were ignored by the state health department, according to a WBJDF representative.
