Norfolk man arrested for alleged attack on hospital

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) – A man has been arrested and is facing multiple assault charges following an incident at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Norfolk Police say 46-year-old Robert P. Baker Jr. appeared very restless and was walking quickly when they first contacted him around 2 a.m. Friday. Baker allegedly said he had eaten methamphetamine and was trying to get to the hospital for treatment.

Norfolk Rescue responded and transported Baker to Faith Regional Hospital, accompanied by an officer.

When Baker arrived at the hospital, he grabbed a pregnant healthcare worker and removed her badge. Hospital staff asked Baker to leave because of Baker’s aggression, police said.

Baker began running towards the nurses as he was being taken out of the hospital. He was then restrained and prevented from harming other healthcare workers.

But during the time Baker was restrained, Norfolk Police said Baker attempted to remove an officer’s stun gun and tried to grab another officer’s firearm.

Baker was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail. He currently faces charges of third-degree assault on a healthcare worker, two counts of attempted second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal mischief.
