Man reportedly stole woman’s electric scooter from Myrtle Beach park and hit her with a stick while chasing him

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 42-year-old Myrtle Beach man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing someone’s scooter, hitting him with a stick while chasing him and trying to break into someone’s house with a shovel. Reports obtained by News13.

Shyneek Chestnut was charged with common law robbery, second-degree burglary with aggravation, first-degree assault and battery, identity fraud to avoid detection by law enforcement, trespassing after notice, and providing a false name or address.

According to a report, the first incident occurred on Oct. 14 when police responded to the area of ​​Acline Boulevard and Crimson Street for a robbery. A woman who was “panicked, panting and crying” when officers arrived said her electric scooter was charging in Bathsheba Park when Chestnut stole it.

The woman told police she started chasing Chestnut while he was on a scooter and the man grabbed a stick and hit her in the head, breaking it, according to the report. Chestnut also allegedly said he would “fuck her” if she continued chasing him before driving off.

Another bystander began chasing Chestnut down the Acline Street path until he was hit in the head with a brick. However, the report stated that “there were no injuries caused by a brick or other heavy object” on the person’s head.

More than a week later, on Wednesday, police officers reported a burglary on Carver Street, according to a report. The person told police Chestnut was in the back of the house and broke the back bedroom window with a shovel and tried to turn it to unlock the window.

The report stated that Chestnut fled the scene before police arrived. He was later arrested Wednesday after police responded to another burglary call on Dunbar Street.

The report stated that Chestnut gave responding officers an ID that did not belong to him. It was also alleged that he gave a false name to the police when he later arrived at the prison.

Chestnut was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday, according to online records. As of this writing, he remains jailed on bonds totaling more than $525,000.
