According to the police statement, 5 people, including 3 children, were injured in the knife attack in Beijing, the capital of China.

Police said the stabbing occurred Monday afternoon near a school in Haidian district, northwest of Beijing, according to a statement by The Associated Press.

In the statement, it was stated that none of the injured were life-threatening and that the 50-year-old suspect, surnamed Tang, was detained at the scene and the investigation was continuing.

The place where the attack took place is a famous primary school. In a video on social media, two school-age children can be seen, while another photo shows a man with a bloody face being pressed to the ground.

Although such reports have been rare in China for years, several stabbing attacks have been reported in China this year, many involving school-going children. Three people died and 15 people were injured in a knife attack in Shanghai earlier this month.

A 10-year-old Japanese student was stabbed to death in Shenzhen last month, and a woman who tried to intervene was killed in a knife attack in June.
In early October, three people died and 15 people were injured in a stabbing attack at a supermarket in Shanghai.

Unlike the United States, private gun ownership is tightly regulated in China, making knives and homemade explosives the most common tools in such crimes.
