3 people charged with murder in shooting death of New Jersey detective

3 people were charged with murder in connection with the incident fatal shot A detective was killed during a raid on his New Jersey home, authorities said.

Detective Sergeant. Monica Mosley, of the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, was shot to death at her home in Bridgeton on Oct. 15, according to police.

The Cape May County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that charges have been filed in connection with Mosley’s murder.

Three people: Nyshawn Mutcherson, 29; Jarred Brown, 31; Richard Hawkins Willis, 32, and burglary were charged with first-degree murder and murder in the burglary, the prosecutor’s office said. The office said the defendants were also charged with burglary, illegal weapons possession, hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice, among other charges.

A fourth person — 38-year-old Cyndia Pimentel — was also charged with obstructing an investigation, obstructing justice and tampering with evidence in connection with Mosley’s death, the office said.

The detention of four defendants continues. Attorney information was not immediately available.

“This is an important step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a statement. he said. “We remain steadfast in our determination to hold those responsible for this horrific act accountable. Our hearts go out to Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.”

The Cape May County District Attorney’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.

Police responded to Mosley’s home around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 for a report of “several suspects kicking in the front door of a residence,” the Bridgeton Police Department said in a press release.

Mutcherson, Brown and Willis are accused of breaking into the Bridgeton home and shooting Mosley, according to probable cause for their arrest.

Mosley shot one of the suspects, Mutcherson, in the chest before succumbing to his injuries, according to testimony.

The three suspects allegedly fled the home and Mutcherson was treated for a gunshot wound at a hospital in Bridgeton, the affidavit said. Police said they had previously detained a person who was being treated for a gunshot wound in connection with the incident for questioning. Mutcherson allegedly told detectives he was shot in Millville, New Jersey, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit alleged that in the days following the shooting, Brown, Willis and Pimentel attempted to “throw away, destroy and conceal evidence of the home invasion.”

Mosley, 51, had three children and four grandchildren, according to his obituary.

He began his career in 2006 as a paralegal at the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in Bridgeton. He became a district detective in 2009.

“Law enforcement and the State of New Jersey have lost a determined and dedicated public servant, but we know that the loss of Sergeant Monica Mosley is felt most deeply by her family, loved ones, and colleagues,” said New Jersey Attorney General Matthew. Platkin said in a statement Monday. “While nothing will bring Sergeant Mosley back to those who loved him, we hope that the focused, coordinated efforts in this case will provide them with the comfort of knowing that justice is pursued.”
