CID detectives use State resources in private disputes

Seven senior detectives from the Bulawayo Homicide Unit appeared in court on Saturday to face charges of serious theft, misconduct and obstruction of justice. The detectives, who were allegedly involved in an unauthorized operation involving the misuse of state resources, are accused of trying to illegally seize gold ore and cash.

Constables Wellington Masuna, Kuziwa Dennis Zambuko, Fakazi Swati and Clemence Mbofana were charged with misconduct for allegedly carrying out an unauthorized operation to recover gold ore and cash. Meanwhile, detectives Patson Muchingami, Weddington Mugabe and Fairchild Katazo were charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly trying to interfere with the legal process in connection with the case.

The unauthorized operation reportedly involved the use of government vehicles and other resources without the necessary approval from superiors, raising concerns of corruption within the police force.

The seven detectives appeared in court last Saturday and were detained while awaiting a bail hearing. The court proceedings have attracted significant public attention by highlighting issues of accountability and integrity within law enforcement.

This case comes at a time of increased scrutiny of police conduct across the country, with the Bulawayo Homicide Unit now a special focus.
