The Financial and Legal Committee of Muharraq Municipal Council recommended suspending the permits of delivery companies until a regulatory legal framework is established.

This came as the committee held a meeting chaired by Ahmed Al Maqhawi and attended by council members Abdulqader Al Sayed, Mohammed Al Mahmoud and Dalal Al Muqhawi, as well as Mohammed Hussain, Head of the Enforcement Branch Inspection Department, and Chairman Abeer Al Mahmeed. It belongs to the Licensing Department.

Council President Abdulaziz Al Naar was also present to discuss various points.

The committee stated that it will invite the relevant authorities to discuss the problems related to these companies and find the most appropriate solutions to these problems, as well as to address the concerns of residents and road users.

He emphasized that the proposed measures will not include any increase in wages, thus preventing higher prices for consumers.

The committee invited the Ministry of Industry and Trade to discuss the operational mechanisms of delivery companies, but the ministry refused to participate.

Al Maqhawi expressed the committee’s surprise at this absence, stating that the invitation was aimed at gathering preliminary information to determine each entity’s responsibility in supervising these companies.

The committee also discussed investment opportunities for Muharraq Grand Park following the departure of the previous investor.

Given previous unsuccessful investment attempts, the committee proposed new conditions; most importantly, it was to ensure the comfort of residents near the park and protect them from noise pollution often associated with recreational activities.

The committee also exchanged views on land acquisition procedures for public benefit to serve the residents of the region.

They also discussed the issue of street vendors in Muharraq municipality based on Decision No. (1) of 2006.

The Council believes it is necessary to regulate this activity to ensure public safety and health standards.
