Anna Kendrick Reflects on the ‘Icky’ Experience of Being Sacked by Rude Director in Front of 100 Extras

Anna Kendrick describes how she was treated by a film director who made her look bad and embarrassed in front of other extras on the set. He described this experience during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Kendrick He said that while filming a scene with about a hundred extras in the room, the director told him to improvise. After executing his command, the director suddenly shouted ‘cut’ and criticized his behavior without any reason, saying it was unnecessary. Kendrick was upset with this behavior because it humiliated her without good reason.

He said, “It really felt like a very specific power move to embarrass me, to gain dominance. It was so disgusting.”

The scene he eventually improvised was later included in the film’s trailer, causing Kendrick to take umbrage at the entire incident. While describing the incident, he kept the name of the director and the film itself secret. The Twilight star criticized the unnamed director, adding: “Then what I developed came out in the trailer. So fuck you!”

Meanwhile, Kendrick took over as captain of the ship, making his debut as a feature film director in Woman of the Hour. Ian McDonald wrote this American crime thriller, released in 2023; This film follows the life of serial killer Rodney Alcala and his involvement in the sitcom The Dating Game while leading a murder spree.

The film’s official description reads: “Sheryl Bradshaw, a single woman looking for a suitor on a popular 1970s TV show, chooses charming bachelor Rodney Alcala, unaware that the man is hiding a deadly secret behind his gentle exterior.”

Anna Kendrick plays Sheryl Bradshaw, one of the contestants on the show, and plays the role of Alcala alongside Daniel Zovatto, Nicolette Robinson and Tony Hale. The Woman of the Hour premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on September 8, 2023, and this film was made available for streaming on Netflix on October 18, 2024.
