House committee to hear top Mountie alleges Indian interference – Brandon Sun

OTTAWA – RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme is among top security officials set to meet with the House of Commons national security committee, weeks after making explosive allegations against the Indian government.

On October 14, the RCMP alleged that Indian diplomats and consular officials were persons of interest in violence targeting Canadian citizens, including extortion, coercion and murder.

The RCMP said it has taken the extraordinary step of speaking publicly about ongoing investigations due to threats to public safety.

On the same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly announced that Canada had expelled the high commissioner to India and five other diplomats.

The Indian government denies the allegations and has expelled six Canadian diplomats.

The committee will also meet today with the prime minister’s national security adviser and the director of CSIS, and will later question Joly and Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc.
