Bold and ambitious goals for human transformation are rapidly being achieved

–President Ali highlights the continued empowerment of citizens through social and economic policies

Emphasizing that development is multifaceted, President Dr. Irfaan Ali said the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government has set bold and ambitious goals to bring social and economic empowerment to Guyanese.

At that time, the President was addressing the residents of the Ninth Region (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) at the groundbreaking ceremony of two major projects.

Dr. Drawing attention to the tremendous development taking place in the country, Ali said that physical transformation through buildings, roads and other infrastructures could be easy to attract.

However, he noted that the most beautiful and transformative aspect of Guyana’s development in the last four years was the transformation in people’s lives.

He said this aspect of the transformation requires the construction of a support system for young people, especially a future linked to the economic development and expansion of the country.

“We have launched a human transformation project across this country; “We have set ourselves some bold and ambitious goals in this humanitarian transformation project,” he said.

Some of these goals include aiming to have 100 percent trained teachers in the education system and going beyond this, ensuring that trained teachers also become trained graduates.

He also stated that it is aimed to provide adequate training for nurses, community health workers, pharmacists and ‘laboratory’ technicians in every corner of the country.

On a broader human development level, the move was made to launch the GOAL (Guyana Online Learning Academy) scholarship program and make the University of Guyana, as well as all government technical and vocational facilities, free to all Guyanese. .

Mayor Ali, who was among a group consisting mostly of young people, said: “These are young people from your region; “It’s a sample of young people from your area who three or four years ago would never have thought they would have the opportunity to become nurses, nursing technicians, and trained teachers in this area.”

He added: “This is social empowerment; This is economic empowerment!”

In this context, President Ali noted that this is the power of a policy that goes far beyond the delivery of a single product.

But he reiterated that young people are growing up in an era where they need to understand that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic is about creating and giving opportunities that did not exist before to build stronger, livable and sustainable communities.

“But when someone says, Oh, can we eat road? Can we eat a building? This shows that they do not understand what development is and how narrow-minded they are. Physical infrastructure not only changes your mindset, culture and the way you treat the environment, it also adds value to your property…” said Dr. Ali.

The Head of State also noted that development is multi-faceted and therefore the government can stand behind the power of faces that can tell the story of what has been achieved.

President Ali said, “The reality of the country we live in today is different. We must understand the development paradigm; “We must look beyond the superficial nature of commentators who see everything as wrong but have no idea what it will take to fix it.”
