Ogun closes the school and suspends the principal after the death of the student — News — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Ogun State Government has closed Obada Grammar School in Idi-Emi, Obada following the death of Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student of the school.

This follows the arrest and suspension of the teacher allegedly responsible for the student’s death as a result of corporal punishment on Friday last week.

It was also decided to suspend the principal of the school, Ms. Tamrat Onaolapo, who was previously investigated for allowing corporal punishment to be applied to the student in violation of the established rules and regulations in the state.

The closure of the school was based on the directive of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who directed the establishment of a panel to investigate the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.

The governor promised that those responsible will face the full wrath of the law as a result of the investigation.

Representatives of the Ministry of National Education, Science and Technology also visited the family of the deceased student.

The purpose of the visit was to express condolences to the family and express the Ministry’s regret for the losses and to gather first-hand information about the incident for a comprehensive investigation.

The team comprised the Director in the Ministry, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, General Managers, Egba and Yewa Divisions, District Education Officer, Imeko Afon, ANCOPPS representatives, Ogun State Chairman, Trade Union Congress and Ogun State Chairman of ASSUS.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief Executives, Egba and Yewa Divisions and the Director of Education, Secondary and Higher Education expressed their heartfelt condolences even as the state government promised to support the family during this difficult time.

Authorities assured the family that a thorough investigation would be launched to determine the facts of the incident and that they would be held accountable.

They reiterated the government’s commitment to the safety of students, creating a more supportive school environment and providing justice for the bereaved family over the sudden death of their son.

DPO Idi Emi assured the family that the situation regarding the ugly incident will be resolved fundamentally and justice will be served. He assured them of the safety of their wards in the school.

A letter of condolence for the loss and a cash gift of N500,000 were delivered to the representative of the deceased family.

The authorities were acknowledged by the family, who expressed their grief and shock at the sudden loss of their child.
