Nick Kyrgios believes Andy Murray deserves to retire ‘more gracefully’ after the tennis icon ended his career.

“It’s like you’ve accomplished everything. I think you deserve to go out a little more gracefully than he did.

“I don’t think the surgeries and pain are worth it.”

Murray had undergone major hip surgery in both 2018 and 2019 before publicly discussing retiring from tennis for the first time.

But the two-time Olympic gold medalist did not confirm his retirement plans until July this year, on the eve of the Games in the French capital.

Kyrgios, meanwhile, has had his own injury problems, which have prevented him from playing competitively since August 2023.

He is currently looking to return to his homeland Australian Open He added in January, however, that he had found the professional environment overwhelming throughout his career.

“It was tough at the time and I didn’t think I could take a step back from the sport and work on myself and get in the right frame of mind.

“I was just playing, playing, playing and taking care of everything.

“And it was a dark time. It was like I was drinking and I was out of control and I kept playing and traveling. It was just too much.”
