All Ontario residents will soon receive a $200 rebate from the government.

The reduction is meant to help Ontario families struggling with the high costs of the federal carbon tax and interest rates, Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday in Scarborough.

Families will receive an additional $200 for each eligible child.

“We are doing everything we can to keep costs low for Ontario families, but the federal carbon tax and high interest rates are still hurting taxpayers in the province,” Ford said. “This $200 taxpayer rebate will provide Ontario taxpayers, especially families with children, with much-deserved relief to help them make ends meet.”

Checks should be mailed in early 2025. A family of five, including two adults and three children, could receive $1,000 if eligible. This rebate is expected to total $3 billion to approximately 12.5 million adults and 2.5 million children.

“We encourage taxpayers to watch their mailboxes for this early 2025 taxpayer rebate as we continue to make life more affordable for Ontarians while maintaining prudent, responsible fiscal management,” said Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy.

The government is providing this relief to taxpayers due to higher-than-expected revenues as a result of the impact of inflation on state sales tax revenues and the impact of recent changes to the federal government’s capital gains tax, the state said in a press release. .

Individuals eligible for the tax-free taxpayer deduction must be 18 years of age or older at the end of 2023; Be a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2023; Those who submitted their 2023 Income Tax and Social Aid Declarations by December 31, 2024; and will not be bankrupt or imprisoned in 2024.

The statement does not mention income levels. In other words, people with high incomes will also be able to benefit from aid.

Families eligible for the Canada Child Benefit payment for 2024 should receive an additional $200 for each eligible child under 18.

For families with children who do not receive CCB for 2024, the government should provide taxpayers with the opportunity to pay a rebate of $200 per child through an alternative process.
