Osun APC suspends Aregbesola over anti-party activities — Politics — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former Governor and former Minister of Home Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola, for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

The suspension, which came into force with immediate effect, followed a petition by the Ilesa East Local Government APC Executive Committee to the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, accusing Aregbesola of actions prejudicial to the unity of the APC. Pending a formal investigation, the state APC has denied the party’s Dr. He also informed the national leadership led by Abdullahi Ganduje about the development.

According to the “Decision Removing Rauf Aregbesola from Anti-Party Activities and Establishing a Disciplinary Board” dated October 22, signed by Osun APC Chairman Lawal and Secretary Kamar Olabisi, the party acted in accordance with Article 21 of the constitution.

The statement listed several allegations against Aregbesola, including encouraging factionalism by forming the Omoluabi Caucus, collaborating with opposition parties, and publicly criticizing key APC figures such as President Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and former Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The APC also claimed that Aregbesola had refused to participate in party activities since 2019 and did not vote for the party during the elections.

A formal disciplinary committee has been established to investigate the allegations and is expected to present its findings and recommendations within 14 days. According to the committee’s follow-up letter dated October 24, signed by Disciplinary Committee Secretary Waheed Adediran, Aregbesola was notified to respond to the allegations in writing within 48 hours.

“The party will not hesitate to impose disciplinary measures on any member found guilty of violating the constitution or engaging in anti-party behaviour,” the Osun APC warned, urging members to maintain unity and refrain from actions that could harm the party’s electoral chances.

Aregbesola’s sacking marks a significant escalation in intra-party tensions as the APC seeks to maintain discipline among members ahead of the upcoming elections.
