Man convicted of murder at Omaha hotel in 2023

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Man accused of murder A woman was found dead at a hotel in Omaha He was found guilty on Tuesday in 2023.

Daniel Nickels(51) was found guilty of First Degree Murder and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.

Nickels faces life in prison without parole plus an additional 50 years in prison

Nickels’ sentencing will be given on December 20.

Nickels was charged in the death of Esmeralda Vargas, who was shot the morning of Dec. 4 at the Comfort Inn near 70th and Grover streets.

Omaha Police said he was found in the third-floor hallway near the elevator with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Nickels arrested in Missouri later that day.
