Two women charged after Sodus school disturbance and assault on officer

Two women are facing multiple charges following an argument that allegedly turned violent at Sodus Middle School on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Amy M. Stephens, 40, of Sodus, and Denise A. Bardin, 58, of Wolcott, were arrested after deputies responded to a reported disturbance at the school involving the two. Authorities said the duo was disruptive and refused to leave the building, so a school resource officer intervened. When asked to leave, the women allegedly resisted, causing Stephens to hit the officer, leading to a physical struggle.

The incident resulted in minor injuries to both the school resource officer and a staff member. Authorities said a young man was also present during the fight but was not harmed.

Stephens is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child, a third-degree felony. Bardin is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a third-degree felony, obstructing governmental administration and second-degree harassment.

Bardin was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Sodus Town Court at a later date. Stephens was transported to the Wayne County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
