More than 200 kilos of drugs were seized during three traffic stops

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — More than 200 pounds of drugs were seized in three separate incidents in the San Diego area last week, authorities said.

The first drug bust occurred around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, near San Clemente during immigration checkpoint operations on Interstate 5, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release Tuesday.

Authorities found 50 plastic-wrapped packages of cocaine weighing 144 pounds hidden inside four duffel bags in the trunk. Border agents turned the drugs, vehicle, driver and passenger over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for investigation.

The second seizure occurred around 1 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 15 near Temecula Parkway. Border agents stopped and searched a suspicious sedan and found 22.5 pounds of fentanyl wrapped in plastic in the vehicle’s speaker box, according to authorities. The driver, vehicle, and drugs were turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The third incident occurred on Interstate 5 around 1:30 p.m. Friday. Border agents found 30 packages in the duffel bag that tested positive for cocaine, weighing a total of 73.8 pounds. The driver, passenger, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for prosecution.
