David DePape, who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s 82-year-old husband, was sentenced to life in prison

David Depape, who attacked Paul Pelosi, husband of former US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in 2022, was sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance of parole on Tuesday, October 29. DePape was sentenced by a California state court to “life imprisonment without the possibility of parole following his conviction for aggravated kidnapping and other charges.”

He is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence for the incident.

San Francisco area lawyer slamming Trump indirectly

“DePape will now face justice for the violence he committed as a result of overheated, dangerous and divisive partisan rhetoric spread online and in person,” San Francisco district attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement.

“While some politicians made light of this incident and made jokes to score political points, this was a horrific attack on a leader, our family, and our democracy. We must all do our part to stand up for justice and the rule of law,” Jenkins added, an apparent reference to Donald Trump by being found.

Republican presidential candidate Trump is known to downplay the horrific attack on Pelosi.

Speaking at the California Republican Party Fall Convention in September 2023, Trump said he would “oppose crazy Nancy Pelosi” if re-elected president. She then asked her supporters, “How’s her husband doing, by the way?” he asked. and joked that the “wall around her house” wasn’t doing a “good job” of protecting her 82-year-old husband from intruders.

2022 attack

On October 28, 2022, David DePape broke into Pelosi’s home and beat Paul with a stick. The terrible attack was captured on the police security camera.

At the time, Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, was second in line to the US Presidency and was regularly the target of outlandish far-right conspiracy theories; One of them was behind DePape’s attack.

According to the information obtained, DePape entered the couple’s house with the aim of harming Nancy Pelosi. But Nancy wasn’t home and instead ran into her elderly 82-year-old husband and engaged in what DePape later described as a “pretty friendly” conversation before Paul Pelosi called for help.

When police arrived, DePape struck the eighty-year-old with a hammer, causing a skull fracture and knocking him unconscious. Pelosi was hospitalized for a week and had to undergo surgery for her injury.

Minutes before his sentencing, the gunman gave a rambling, tearful statement about the 9/11 attacks and conspiracy theories including “satanic magic murder rituals,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle. However, Pelosi did not apologize to her family.
