HC dismisses 11 cases filed against Khaleda Zia during AL regime

Supreme Court Bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossein announced the decision after the rules issued for quashing cases were abolished.

The Supreme Court today (October 30) dismissed 11 sedition and sabotage cases filed against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia during the ousted Awami League regime.

Supreme Court Bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossein announced the decision after the rules issued for quashing cases were abolished.

Senior advocates Joynul Abedin, Advocate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Nasir Uddin Asim, Advocate Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Ragib Rauf Chowdhury, Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Advocate Md Zakir Hossain, Advocate HM Sanjid Siddique, Advocate Tareq Bhuiya and Advocate M Sabbir Ahmed are in the court. Represented Khaleda Zia.

According to Khaleda’s lawyers, a total of 10 cases were filed against her during the anti-government movement in 2015, three at Jatrabari police station and seven at Darus Salam police station.

Khaleda’s name was either present in the First Information Report (FIR) or included in the charges of these cases. Khaleda’s lawyers said that the case proceedings were suspended for a long time after the HC decision.

The HC on Wednesday dismissed these cases after declaring that the rule was valid in these cases following Khaleda Zia’s petition.

Meanwhile, the same HC delegation also dismissed another rebellion case filed against Khalida for a comment regarding the number of martyrs during the war of independence.
