More than a dozen men and teenagers charged for ‘violence and disorder’ following Hibs v Motherwell

Eleven men and three teenagers were charged by police following chaos following a match between Hibernian and Motherwell in Edinburgh.

Police were called to St Andrew Square in the city center following the match at Easter Road on Saturday 5 October.

Officers said the incidents of violence and disorder were directed at them.

Seven men aged 32, 22, 21, 20, 19 and two 18-year-olds were previously charged with the disorder. Male youths aged 17 and 16 at the time were also charged.

On Wednesday police confirmed that four men – two aged 19, an 18-year-old and a 24-year-old – have also been charged in connection with the incident. Now a 16-year-old young man is also accused.

They were released on the promise to appear in court at a later date.

Officials said an order was received to ban football.

Chief Inspector Craig Rogerson said: “Officers work hard to create a safe environment not only during football matches but also after matches.

“These arrests send a strong message that we will not tolerate any form of football-related disorder.”
