Four MBTA employees have been terminated in connection with alleged misconduct at Cabot Yard, a maintenance facility in South Boston where Red Line vehicles are stored.

Four MBTA MBTA officials confirmed that employees “directly involved” in allegations of misconduct at Cabot Yard in connection with an ongoing investigation have been terminated.

allegationsConsidered as “potential criminal activity”, it concerns employees working in private vehicles during working hours, the Boston Globe previously reported.

“While a comprehensive investigation into allegations of employee misconduct at Cabot Yard continues, the MBTA has taken decisive action based on our findings to date and terminated four employees,” MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said in a statement. “We take these allegations very seriously as we have an obligation to the public we serve and our workforce to ensure that every employee meets the highest standards of conduct.”

The alleged abuse occurred on: Cabot ShipyardA care facility in South Boston Red Line vehicles are stored.

A total of seven additional employees are currently on leave, and one employee who was observed but not directly involved in the activity will remain on administrative leave pending further investigation, the MBTA said.

Following the incident, the MBTA announced that it had deployed management teams to increase site visits and maintain a visible presence at its locations.

“As a public institution, it is our responsibility to manage public resources well and utilize all possible resources to provide the best service to our passengers,” Eng said. “Based on the investigation findings, we will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure accountability and prevent such a situation from happening again.”
