Davenport man charged in weekend shooting, authorities say

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A man was arrested Monday in connection with a weekend shooting in Davenport.

Dantawn Cole, 32, is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and possession of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon, a Class D felony.

According to police, Cole fired four shots at a person inside a vehicle in the 800 block of Warren Street on Sunday.

A judge on Tuesday set Cole’s bond at $50,000 cash only and set a preliminary hearing for Nov. 8.

Cole also has prior convictions for controlled substance violations in 2021 and first-degree criminal mischief and escape in 2022, according to the arrest affidavit.

in 2015Cole was charged with first-degree murder and being armed with intent to kill in the shooting death of 29-year-old Brandon Smith.

Authorities said Cole stole a gun from a home and gave it to co-defendant Quantrell McDaniel, who shot and killed Smith.

Cole later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and carrying a weapon with intent and was sentenced to five years in prison. McDaniel pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
